In the final analysis humans suck and scripture is more likely to make them suck worse than otherwise.
The meaning of crossing a picket line. An article I read about Dalton Trumbo and the 1960 Spartacus mentioned that President Kennedy, a month after his inauguration crossed a 'picket line' instigated by the American Legion in order to view the movie. The article while approving of Kennedy's role in ending blacklisting stated that crossing a picket line was 'not cool' for a Democrat and a civil rights advocate. This was not a 'picket line' in my book.

Consider the following 2 statements, the first from a contemporary physicist.
"Quantum physics says nothing about how the world is. Instead, quantum physics only describes the experiments we do to test our theories of how the world works—it gives us probabilities for the outcomes that may happen in an experiment."
E Mach:
"Science must disentangle itself from all total pictures of the world, from all weltanschauungs, and confine itself to describing the bare facts of experience."

I don't do math, science of physics so I'm at a big disadvantage here but it looks to me that Ferry is pushing Ernest Mach positivism which is not to say that he's wrong.
