Today's generation (millennial, Gen-Z) are absolutely helpless and have zero critical thinking skills. All emotion. Zero drive. - Lemmy.World

I work in a factory. Have been for a good number years. These kids are not at all experienced in simple, common, critical thinking. We train them. Before they hit the floor. Then, they go on one of the lines, we say “don’t put your hand in the machine while it’s running, bad things will happen. " OMG, LIKE WHAT? " Well, you could lose a finger. Just follow the Saftey Guideli- " A FINGER? OOOOH HELL NAW” This same type of back and forth gets played out over and pretty much with ANYTHING we ask of them. And it’s not just “young and dumb”. They are not in the least bit interested in understanding… anything that doesn’t immediately effect them in some way. It’s all about them. Fuck everything and everybody else. Fuck the rules. Fuck the safety requirements. Fuck the expectations to show up on time. I’ve had kids literally cuss me out for expecting them to be at their position on time. There is no sense of accountability. No expectation of responsibility from their point of view. I want to help them. I NEED them. I want train them in areas the struggle with. But this entitled attitude that they have makes it increasingly difficult. They cannot even comprehend that when your machine goes down for whatever reason, you can’t just walk out of the plant and sit in your car for 20 mins waiting on maintenance. These are ~ 19-25 yr olds. Adults. I ask them to grab a wrench (THE ONLY WRENCH WE HAVE) out of drawer, they have absolutely no idea which tool they’re looking FOR. Men and women. They’re both completely dumbfounded by anything that isn’t a phone they’re staring at. I weap for the future.
