In our joint inaugural lecture, Julia Schwanholz and I talked about the role of political science for democracy.

We examined its academic structure in Germany, Europe and internationally, including the current state of debate on its role and function, the challenges of science in the digital age and anti-science movements. We also explored the prospective position of our discipline in terms of its scientific and societal relevance, as well as its contribution to democratic resilience.

Stattdessen erfordert eine politics-of-change: den präzisen Blick auf politische Prozesse und Handlungsspielräume, in denen demokratische Mehrheiten ausgehandelt werden, eine multiperspektivische analytische Rahmung kombinierter Wandlungsmechanismen, sowie tiefgehende empirische Untersuchungen zu Akteursaktivitäten über lange Phasen politischer Stabilität hinweg.

Diese drei Kernergebnisse strukturieren das Buch und eröffnen neue Perspektiven für die Erforschung politischen Wandels.
