DISCUSSION: Serious question: whats the point to a Republican debate in search of a primary, if we all know Trump will be the nominee? - Lemmy.world

I knows there’s that “well we don’t know that yet.” but I’ve been keeping up to latest updates and I don’t see Trump not getting the nomination. 1. He’s pretty much told the Republican party that he WILL BE the nominee. 2. Republicans have stated they WILL vote for him. 3. The current runners have also stated they would vote for him too. Is there an underlying thing going on? Like is the plan to give Trump the nomination and just in case things don’t roll out as planned they have something to fall back on?
