@stefanie my best guess is its probably the fact that it would be a pain for maintainers of a site to have compromised accounts able to access their service, so they force more security onto regular users so thats less likely to happen. like if i ran github i would hate to have malicious accounts on there, so id want to find ways to prevent all users from getting their accounts compromised. just my theory though
@nilclass @stefanie also, if you enter a 2fa code and it doesnt work, you do also know its not your issue the same way as a password. but yeah, same here, was mostly just curious what your thoughts were
@stefanie hang on, i understand the suckiness of having accounts dependent on a very breakable piece of hardware, thats definitely an issue, and tbh i do get rejecting things for the fact their forced, im sure ive done just that in multiple areas of my life.
i dont get the first part though? i can definitely check if i entered the right 2fa numbers? i pull the app up, read the numbers, type them in on another app/device, and double check a couple times. or do you mean more like you cant verify its generating correct numbers since its not a static thing?
