Post-Baccalaureate Fellow-HHMI Grant (Inclusive Excellence Student Support Coordinator)

Exemption Status: United States of America (Non-Exempt) Job Description: The goals of this position are to provide support for introductory STEM courses and to provide support to the other Howard Hughes Medical Institute (HHMI) initiatives occurring at Trinity. To accomplish these goals, the individual in this role will offer students more support, and more consistency in student support among multiple sections of a course, and offer faculty teaching introductory courses more support and to complete tasks that will provide more time for faculty to invest directly in student learning. This position is an in-person role with an anticipated 40 hours/week spent on campus at Trinity University. The workload is distributed amongst the two primary goals of this position: a) tasks to support introductory STEM courses and b) tasks to support other HHMI initiatives at Trinity. A. Tasks to Support Introductory STEM Courses There should be ~20 hours/week, to be shared between introductory lecture courses in Biology, Chemistry, Math, and Computer Science. Thus, each department will receive approximately 5 hours/week of introductory course support each semester. Tasks that may comprise this support include: Accommodations. Compile information for students who receive accommodations from SAS. Provide faculty teaching each section with a report concerning which students receive which accommodations. Communicate with all students receiving accommodations to let them know of your role in supporting their accommodations in Biology and Chemistry courses this semester. When exams or other assessments are given, make sure that paperwork is completed with SAS for each section, and confirm that policies are consistent across sections. Collect and compile physical copies of exams from SAS. Attendance, absences, and make-up work. If homework or attendance is required in a course, compile attendance information. This may be through Google quizzes, PollEverywhere, Gradescope, or another such software. If in-class participation is graded, compile the grades after each class period Grading logistics. As requested by the professors: Alphabetize written assignments and exams. Enter grades into grade spreadsheets. Scan exams and quizzes into online grading systems such as Gradescope. Staple separate components of exam to return to students. Return copies of exams or assignments to students who missed class and need to pick them up separately. Enter grades into Canvas (or similar learning management systems). B. Tasks to Support Other HHMI Initiatives There should be ~20 hours/week of work to support the other parts of the HHMI grant. Tasks that may comprise this support include, but are not limited to: Curriculum and faculty development. Working with the HHMI curriculum or faculty development committees on events. Coordination of events (including organization and marketing) or other logistics may be required. Ambassadors for eXcellence in STEM (AXIS). Working with the AXIS students and faculty to promote and execute student or faculty-run projects. Supervising hours for AXIS students. Additional tasks may be required. Education Required: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university. Experience Required: 6 months-12 months. Preferred: Experience with student organizations; leadership roles; DEIB (diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging) initiatives; STEM organizations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Preferred: Ability to work under pressure to meet office/project deadlines. Excellent organization and communication skills. Knowledge of working in a team setting. Ability to connect with others across differences of perspective and background.
