@Gargron better than real time, I'm seeing toots from the future! https://mastodon.social/media/Y7bin5YIW5-WGHcMlvg
@bunnylyn @Gargron so good.. it'll be taken in no time

Non-federated instances are a feature, not a bug

Sometimes, you just want to connect to your peers, and only your peers. Being able to do so without accidentally the world is a good thing; compare randos dropping into mentions on the bird site.

Or, better yet: imagine a neighborhood instance, where people from a certain geographical are coordinate stuff.

Different usecases, different needs to federate

Toot

I am originating a new usage of the ✅. I hope it catches on, because in a sense it's mostly used this way now.

As portability is currently quite limited, the checkmark now indicates that I am actively using that instance, and that my other nonchecked instance identities are hibernating.

@Rushyo Plus, I think there's other ways to mitigate fakes, but they require a certain level of public awareness. News sites could run their own instances, so if Tom Brokaw isn't tooting from @[email protected], you know they're a fake. An instance could host celeb accounts and offer verification services, so the domain is the validation, not some checkmark. It's a different way of thinking about social networking, but probably a healthier/more sustainable one in the long run.
@Rushyo @dog_rates heckin nice thing to do. 13/10
Wait, wait, everyone. If you're teaching someone how to use Mastodon, are you giving them a... toot-orial?
@sophia @capn_pancakes looks like you're right! I'm even seeing boosts from people I follow of toots from other instances. Love it!
