I manage this instance, Trans.House, please feel free to hit me up with any feedback!

I work in cybersecurity, mostly doing software engineering, and in my free time I mostly like to read but I also play a few games, watch some TV and movies, you know, the usual things.

I'll probably be posting/reposting techy things, queer things, maybe politics, or whatever other random things I'm thinking about.

How high does the price of eggs have to get before people realize there are superior plant based alternatives? Literally just use flax meal for baking, it's probably cheaper and lasts way longer. I could never use up eggs before they go bad, but flax meal keeps way longer. Same for silken tofu with kala namak. Plus, they're super healthy! Eggs are an inferior product, especially when you consider all the animal abuse involved in producing them.
Honestly the fallout of the TikTok ban is making me think the world would actually be much better off without any social media. Some social media use is fine and good in moderation, but social media companies design their app specifically to be used in excess with little care for the wellbeing of users. A lot of people are getting straight up addicted and dependent on these apps. People need to learn to develop real world skills and make actual irl friends in their communities when possible.
Learning to play banjo has been one of my best decisions to be honest. It's been so much fun and actually makes me feel good and productive for playing it as opposed to previous hobbies like video games. Plus, it keeps me from just sitting around watching YouTube, other than banjo songs I'm trying to learn. It's also been a great way to connect with friends, jamming with friends and teaching friends to play themselves. I can highly recommend learning banjo :)
That's not to say AI doesn't have problems like with how much water and especially energy it uses. It's more like wow animal products really are so incredibly bad for the environment.
You know, I remember reading a while back about how AI uses something like 500mL of water for every 5-50 prompts. Which may have sounded surprising to some people, it was reported on as like imagine dumping out a water bottle every time you talk to ChatGPT. But eating a single hamburger uses up 2,498,371mL of water. Or around 25,000 - 250,000 times as much as one prompt. So if you skip having a hamburger once you'll save more water than you'll be using with ChatGPT over probably several years.
How am I just now finding out about ImHex? This is the coolest hex editor I've seen, plus it's FOSS. 010 Editor, you had a great run, but ImHex might have to be my new go-to hex editor now.
Playing banjo is so addictive, I sit down thinking I'll just play one quick song and next thing I know it's hours later and I'm not getting anything done with my day. And then every time I try to stop my brain immediately thinks of some other songs I haven't practiced yet today but really want to. It's taken me like four tries to stop playing banjo and actually get some other things done just this morning.
This is actually a great idea! I usually do double to single for quotes inside quotes but it would be cool to have a third level even. Also the angle quotes and " mark look much more distinct compared to " and '. I never really liked doing single quotes inside double quotes because they look weird together and sometimes you end the quote with three quote marks all squished together.

One of the more unexpectedly interesting Wikipedia articles I've stumbled upon. I had no idea there were so many styles of quotation marks around the world! I just wanted to know why I sometimes see quotes upside down lol

Looking back at old photos of myself is so weird. It's like this person who is a complete and utter stranger to me, I don't recognize the face literally at all. Except I know it has to be mine. I know I was there, I can think hey I have that shirt, I own all that stranger's belongings in fact, but I don't recognize them at all. It also kicks up a lot of emotions, like frustration but also deep sadness for that stranger. Such a bizarre experience all around.
