"What are the little, tiny, floaty things?"
"Oh, those are stars."

Overflow account for my love of Star Trek, especially Disco and Lower Decks. Captain Burnham is my Captain.... (+ four pip Admiral.) Let's fly!

Likes podcasts, memes, fanfic, songs, deep dives into the politics of Trek, the triple threat of Mariner, Tendi and T'Lyn, and dulcet thistles.

Here for obsessive nerdity with the crew.

Can't spell at the best of times but trying.

WatchingDiscovery S5

Personal log - I recently finished this novel - Somewhere To Belong and it's now my favourite Star Trek novel.

I really liked how it went into the emotional journey of jumping ahead in time as Discovery did - filled in so many important gaps in the story of the crew and their sacrifice. A powerful meditation on the meaning of home both as a physical place and as something found with other people.

I've also, this evening, reached S4 of DS9 and am really enjoying it. The finale of S3 was a nice spooky mystery and I'm ready for S4 now. Was a joy to see Worf appear - much to look forward to.

Unfortunately these two things, the book and the series, are linked as there were some mega huge spoilers for DS9 in the book - like the whole plot of the war being set out as a history. It's a shame, but it's also been impossible to avoid spoilers and, beyond the big plot points, what I really love about DS9 is the people that make up the team.

Day 31 - Fave cliffhanger (waited so long to finish this - how's that for a cliffhanger! đŸ¤Ŗ)

Has to be the end of the last SNW season. Have been on the edge of my seat waiting for answers to what is happening on that Gorn infested planet!

Day 30 - Crew position
Xenoanthropologist please - so I can hangout with Admiral Burnham and be super nerdy.

Thanks so much to the organisers of this challenge - was a lot of fun.

Day 29 - Character Who Inspired You.

I got a little stuck on this one as there's just so many, especially when it comes to Discovery. Michael, Tilly, Saru, Adira, Gray, Paul, Hugh, Joann, Sahil.... (Even Georgiou when she's being protective and badass and not problematically imperial!) Plus it's the whole collective of the crew that is incredibly inspiring.

But I've decided to pick Commander Keyla Detmer.

Day 28 - Favourite Episode Set In The Present Day

Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow

😭 I love this episode so much.

- I adore La'an
- I really like this iteration of Kirk and think they make a great team and couple
- Chemistry! (there should be more kissing on Trek (discuss))
- The twist of the knife when La'an can't talk to anyone about what happened
- It was cool to see a future Toronto
- Pelia was so brilliant in this episode

💔 😭 I am still hoping for a happy ending for La'an and Kirk.

Day 27 - Planet you'd like to visit

I'd like to visit Earth when it is an Eco-Socialist utopia that has transcended money, inequality, poverty, racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia and all the other ills of the world.

That is my idea of paradise. I want this for Earth so badly.

Day 25 - Fave Trek Tech
Hmmm this is a tricky one. I love the replicators and the warp cores and the tricorders, and a universal translator would be amazing. But today I think I'll go with the transporter as the idea of instant travel is very appealing.

Day 26 - Fave Trek Book
I've only read one Trek book, luckily it was good! So my favourite is the Discovery novel 'Desperate Hours.'

Day 24: Favourite Crossover Episode

I did some reading to refresh my mind on other crossover episodes - and was pleasantly surprised at just how many there are, and by the excellent categorising of their complexities on Wikipedia.

However, my original choice still stands - my favourite crossover episode is đŸ“ĸ

⭐ Those Old Scientists!! ⭐

Day 23 - Fave Alien Ship

Do I know how it works? No
Is it seriously f*cking cool? YES.

Cleveland Booker's scout ship is so amazing inside and out. Since he's Kwejian this is my top pick for it's amazing disassembly/reassembly tech, those tactile consoles, cosy/sexy interiors, and the Trance Worm rescuing.

I could not find whether Book named his ship, just that it's a scout ship.

(Also lol, I guess Booker and Michael are also my fave alien/human ship 😄)

Day 22 - Fave Federation Starship

There's only one Ship with a spore drive which can connect to a mycelial network that spans the known universe, multiverse, and other quantum realities.... 🍄 đŸ’Ģ

AND which forms the structural home to a new life form, a sentiment AI named Zora...  đŸ’Ģ

So yeah I'm gonna go with Discovery.

However, shoutout to the little runabout shuttles on DS9, I like those too

And also to the cosy design of the officer quarters on the Enterprise in SNW.
