@swiftfoxfire @AliothFox provided you are wearing a real N95 mask, with a proper seal, you wear it the entire time you are in the risk area, and you use it correctly (dispose after using once in most cases) it should be effective. Wearing surgical or cloth masks is what was ineffective and required group masking. N95s do work, but there's difficulties in a con setting. The part that is going to be hard is "wear it the entire time you are in the risk area", as pretty much any room (including yours) with other unmasked people could infect you, unless those other people also strictly wear N95s when outside that room. That said it's a sliding scale. If you wear an N95 properly out in the main hall you drastically reduce the chance of getting sick from the general con folks, but leave yourself open to getting sick from your roommates if they're not following the same rigor. That's still less of a chance though and at least you won't be the one to get your roommates sick. If you take your mask off in a big room party or something, you're pretty rapidly upping your chance of getting sick to the same level as not masking at all.
