@Rusty for sure, in most cases the performance loss is like 5% or less these days which is very impressive. Native vulkan can run better as well sometimes. Every game does its own thing to get to perf on target machines so once you exit well tested configurations it can be hard to predict what it might do.
@Rusty @ori_mew vulkan translating D3D calls is always going to have some overhead, I've seen native vulkan games performing similarly on Linux but I dunno if I've seen translated games run better. Maybe It's possible with an older game where the translation is able to upgrade like D3D9 calls to equivalent vulkan though.
@Rusty @ori_mew that would only help with shader compile hitches, which drastically varies from game to gane how they appriacg that problem. Most modern games have eliminated this (and perform a recompile step on startup)
@swiftfoxfire not just sleeping, you'd need to figure out how you're going to eat as well. N95 effectiveness drastically reduces if you can't maintain the seal, so while you're asleep if you nudge the mask such that the seal is broken you're not going to be that much better off unfortunately. I gave upon the idea of trying to stay 100% masked even in my room with only my roommates because maintaining the seal that whole time didn't seem feasible.
@swiftfoxfire @AliothFox provided you are wearing a real N95 mask, with a proper seal, you wear it the entire time you are in the risk area, and you use it correctly (dispose after using once in most cases) it should be effective. Wearing surgical or cloth masks is what was ineffective and required group masking. N95s do work, but there's difficulties in a con setting. The part that is going to be hard is "wear it the entire time you are in the risk area", as pretty much any room (including yours) with other unmasked people could infect you, unless those other people also strictly wear N95s when outside that room. That said it's a sliding scale. If you wear an N95 properly out in the main hall you drastically reduce the chance of getting sick from the general con folks, but leave yourself open to getting sick from your roommates if they're not following the same rigor. That's still less of a chance though and at least you won't be the one to get your roommates sick. If you take your mask off in a big room party or something, you're pretty rapidly upping your chance of getting sick to the same level as not masking at all.
@swiftfoxfire bsky is fine honestly, and likely where the majority of users will go.

@Rusty they have to compete with market reality. They pursued a strategy that didn't involve exclusives at all for years and it didn't work
