There are so many anecdotal evidence and "folk wisdom" assumptions in software engineering that it's really maddening. Today's discovery: the notion that "programmers produce code at a roughly constant number of lines per year, regardless of implementation language," which is often used to support the design of more concise, more expressive programming languages, has never been evidenced!
Sometimes you can reach the end of a long straight road faster than a short curvy road.
