Login screen not customized after changing settings? - Lemmy.World

I’m confused at what I’m missing here. In the System Settings Screen>Login Screen>Breeze (which is active theme) I’ve changed the background to a custom image. But it still shows the default image of geometric shapes. When I click the icon for the background it confirms that I have my image saved for the background. However, when I first boot up my computer, the login screen is correct with my custom wallpaper. But when I’ve locked my computer with [OPT]-L the screen shows the default geometric wallpaper. Why is the official Nextcloud help community so combative? - Lemmy.World

Why is the official Nextcloud help community so combative? I’ve been working with Nextcloud for about 3 months in various configurations and every time I’ve had to seek assistance there it has been an unwelcome experience. Even when I say something to the effect of “I’m having this problem with “X”, I think I’ve done something wrong in configuration, where should I look first?” I almost always get a sharp response at best, and most often a response akin to: “You’re wrong, that problem doesn’t exist. I’ve tested it on my server.” This latest time, I’ve found a problem in 3 different installations, 2 other users confirmed they also experience the problem and my thread is just hijacked with “Well we don’t see it, so it doesn’t exist.” and “You should have told us “X” if you wanted any real help.” or “Why are you asking here instead of somewhere else?” Every time I post there, I find myself backing away cautiously while vitreol just erupts. I’m not one of the users who just willy nilly starts posting questions everywhere - I go through lot of self-help effort, investigating, researching and looking at official documentation and searching online to try and figure it out myself before I post, but I’m always faced with a “You’re so stupid for posting here.” vibe over there. I’ve experienced this same or similar behavior over at least a half a dozen attempts to get help with something. In my 20+ years of hosting experience, participating in countless communities, I have never experienced such an unwelcoming, hostile “help community”. What’s the deal?

My new friend might be in an abusive relationship. What can I do?

My new friend might be in an abusive relationship. What can I do? - Lemmy.World

I’m at a loss of what to do here because I don’t know them that well and don’t want to be too intrusive. For the past year or so I’ve been new friends with “Frankie”, and although we are not close, I’d say we’re more than acquaintances. We don’t know each other well, and have interacted a handful of times. They have been eager to socialize and do activities with us. I’ve always gotten a “vibe” from Frankie that things are not right at home. We’ve met the spouse a couple of times and they’ve always given me bad vibes; They are uninterested and unengaged, not really friendly. I’m pretty socially awkward myself and have had my share of unfair judgement based on misunderstood social interactions and so I just gave spouse some slack there. But Frankie is unhappy. I can tell just from conversation Frankie struggles with depression and life. I check in on Frankie periodically by text and durring a text conversation tonight, there are red flags of an abusive relationship. I asked how they were and I got a response “Just a lot of isolation and depression.” and later in the conversation I invited Frankie to an event this weekend and they said: Frankie: “[Spouse] hates that stuff and won’t let me go.” Me: “Not even by yourself?” F: “Nope. He says I’m too trusting of people and will get hurt.” Me: “Too trusting? How?” F: “I talk to strangers. I help people who need help. I smile and say hello to people whenever I’m out and about…” At this point, I was a bit stunned and didn’t know exactly how to respond. I’ve never had someone be so direct in telling me something like this before. I know this is very much textbook isolation and gaslighting. I also thought that because I don’t know Frankie very well, this might be an emotional moment. I can think of a couple times in my life where I was struggling emotionally and might have said something snide about my partner and it wasn’t really truthful. Without judgement, I said “Well you’re more than welcome to come with us [ to the event ] and we can keep an eye on you wink wink” I tend to try and inject humor into things, even when it may not be appropriate. I don’t know how else to handle it. I said: “This sounds like a difficult situation, if you ever need to talk, I’m here.” Frankie: “Yeah, it has been a difficult situation for a while.” I went on to be clear: Frankie is always welcome at our house, and I am always available to talk if needed. I couldn’t bring myself to be more direct and inquire deeper because I don’t know Frankie well enough, and also to put it bluntly: I can’t handle being a counselor right now and that is usually my immediate reaction: to dive in over my head to help someone. I’m trying to break this habit already. But now what? Do I leave it alone? Do I make more an effort to un-isolate Frankie? Do I trust that Frankie got the message that I’m here as an escape hatch? I always try to live that other people’s marriages are none of my business - lord knows my own has had some very private struggles, but when it comes to abuse it’s different. I just don’t know what to do next?

Hi everyone, thanks for your suggestions. I did try to turn it off and reslice the model, but it seems the situation is getting worse. I think my printer has lost it’s damned mind: Not only is it pooping every few layers, but it’s now started having an error every 5 minutes that says: “The nozzle is covered with filament, or the build plate is installed incorrectly.” Neither of these are true. I’ve checked the nozzle and the build plate multiple times and it’s all OK. I also had a couple extrusion errors that seemed false. Restarting the print was fine until these other errors.

Some clarifications:

  • When I say purge, I don’t mean it’s building a purge TOWER. I mean it’s pooping out the little globs to the left of the picture above.
  • It’s just a simple 1 piece Tinkercad model, exported to STL and sliced in Bambu Studio. it only has one filament in the slice. Here’s a screenie of the sliced attributes: i.imgur.com/ZWc6stB.png
  • I can’t seem to figure out how to view the gCode in BS so I can’t see if there’s weird commands in there telling it to do weird things.
  • I’m using the filament profile in BS for the Overture PLA, which is the filament brand/type I’m using.
  • When it gives the nozzle/bed error I can see clearly that it’s not true and click resume and it continues to print for 5+ more minutes and repeats.

When I told it to stop printing from the screen controls it was like WHAAAAT!? and then just started spitting filament everwhere and then just plunged itself into the print and sat there in a very strange position. (See photos)

Why BambuLabs A1 pooping so frequently? (Sorry, not sorry.)

Thank you all for your tips - Ventoy did the trick and I succesfully booted into a Linux Mint installer. :) I can’t wait!

Thank you all for your comments and help.

I was wondering if I even need a USB drive for my endgame? I have an internal 250gb SSD that I want to put Linux Mint on and be bootable. I think I’m under the impression that I need to make a bootable USB drive first and use it to install Linux Mint onto the destination hard drive after it boots into Linux, but I was wondering if it can just be installed directly onto the SSD somehow and skip the USB step altogether?

Like I said, I know the very basics here, and I know what a bootloader is basically, but don’t really know how to manually do anything with it.

Trying to install dual boot but can't seem to boot it.

Trying to install dual boot but can't seem to boot it. - Lemmy.World

Hi all I’m hoping that you will be able to give some guidance to this complete Linux newbie. Outside of doing some initial reading about how to create a bootable USB of Linux mint, I am a novice Linux user. I have a Windows 10 computer and like many I am interested in finally biting the bullet and transitioning away from that big giant company, and my plan was to create a dual boot machine on my distinguishing windows machine while I transition. I have a clean separate hard drive that I was going to install Linux on, but I haven’t gotten that far yet. I downloaded Linux mint 22.1 and tried a couple of ways of putting it on a USB drive with the understanding that I would boot from the USB drive and install onto the extra hard drive on the computer. But I haven’t been successful. At first I followed the instructions that I found online that told me to use etcher to flash the ISO onto the USB drive. That didn’t seem to work as it only put a couple of folders on it and while it was recognized in BIOS, it wouldn’t boot from it. I saw somewhere else online that indicated there should be a bunch of different folders on the install media, and I noticed that if I were to mount the ISO as a CD Rom drive in Windows, I could see that it includes those files. So I had the bright idea of trying to copy and paste the mounted CD-ROM drive over on to the USB drive. However now the USB drive doesn’t appear as a bootable device in the boot menu of BIOS. But when the he USB is plugged in, it just goes to a black screen to forever. I have to unplug the he USB to get back to Windows. I did see somewhere online that suggested that I checked my BIOS UFEI and secure boot settings and they seem right? Secure boot is disabled and the UFEI settings are set to allow both legacy and UFCI boot. I’m not sure where to go from here. I also know about making sure the he bootable drive is first I’m the boot order, but the only time it appeared in the BIOS menu, it wasn’t a bootable drive. What should I check next?

Advice: Fancy robot catbox stinks more than analog!

Thanks for the tips everyone! I increased the bed temp a little, added the brim ears, and applied Bambu Labs liquid adhesive to the plate and it seems to have done the trick. It’s still printing but it’s 80% and no warping this time!
