So... the new Thunderbird mail client is out. Um... yeah, I think it needed a bit more time in the oven.
The image is of the new Get New Messages/Write New Message section that's positioned over our email folders. I really dislike it.
First, The big, blue "+New Message" button sticks out, in a bad way. None of the rest of the app looks like that, even other buttons. Second, it ignores system theming. Third, it cannot be customized (or if it can, I haven't found out how). It's just there, big and garish, like a thumb in the eye.
The little cloud icon on the left is the "Get New Messages" button, and it suffers from the opposite problem. It blends into the rest of the app. And, unlike the other buttons that are for mail actions, it doesn't have a text description of what it does. Even worse, it hides functionality. The old version had a dropdown denoted by a "v" in the button which would allow us to select which email accounts to query for new messages, or to simply query them all. That's now a right click action not hinted at all by the icon.
The entire thing is clunky and ugly and feels a lot more like a first pass than a finalized design. Super disappointing. #thunderbird115 #thunderbird #uxdesign #accessability
