So what's the problem with the fee hike? It is being imposed only on JNU. Unless the fee hike is for all institutes, it reeks more politics than policy. There also is the question of money wasted on statues. But unless we do something about our political class, there is no escaping them.
#JNUprotests are really interesting and like all things India, aren't as black and white as both sides are making them out to be.
The question to ask is can India afford "heavily" subsidized higher education? The answer is no. India has low resources, thinly spread across all segments. Result is that everyone's dissatisfied -- the taxpayer, the student, the farmer, the soldier, everyone. We all think that we are victims of the benefits the others get. It helps the govts divide and rule. 1/n
