@elfkin No problem! The topic is super interesting; I'm in the same boat as you and browsing around a bit made me realize a few things I could def do better with my own alt tags. It's a win win, lol

TIL: CamelCaseInTagsWithMultipleWords is a thing. That's wicked awesome! :D

Overall, a lot of what I found while browsing is very user-dependent.

Some prefer Just Enough, others prefer more detailed posts, some prefer alt text only while others like a combination of alt text + main post / captions.

Got most of my info from
- reddit (ie: r/blind, r/accessibility)
- html5's use of alt text (ie: html tutorials, posts like https://html5accessibility.com/stuff/2024/11/23/old-alt-text-advice/ )
- this one blog ( https://yatil.net/blog/there-is-no-character-limit-for-alt-text ) with the comment by Dax

Old alt text advice – HTML Accessibility

@elfkin Not visually-impaired (enough to warrant alt text for an assist), but browsing around online I found some pretty good information from visually impaired users, or about the devices used.

For example:
- Screen readers. Typically, they can't pause or go back. They also read as a block of text without formatting. Might struggle with symbols. 2-3 sentences is sufficient but more can be allowed/desired.

- Treating alt text like you're describing the image to a friend over the phone.

@bootblackcub

I typically only use emojis when joking around or for aesthetic purposes (bulletpoints in lists, making something look nicer, etc). Never considered assigning different meanings to the hearts specifically, but I've assigned how I'm feeling to other emojis before so that checks out, lol.

If I ever use the hearts, I always roll with black (🖤) because black is my color~ Giving the other colors meaning is a cool idea though!

"FUCKBOT" leaned forward, "Have you SEEN the dudes in leather? How massive their dick and balls can get? I need one to fuck me until I'm offline."

More practice w/ more things I'm bad @: outfits & bgs

I lied, today decided to be that day.

Ended up practicing two areas I suck at: Anatomy and Robots. I still need to practice. Lol.

@hornedking Found this out about a month or two ago when my friend tried to find my afterdark account without an account and couldn't see my posts. LOL.

In my case the suppression saved my ass from total embarrassment but I can see how it'd be unfun for anyone who genuinely wants to browse.

I imagine it's something not well known as I haven't seen this discussion pop up in any of the nsfw-friendly spaces I've been in (until now with this post, aha.)

One of these days I'll start posting more nsfw-esque stuff.

Today is not that day.

Today is chuckling to myself because my friends *really* want to play videogames but I'm over here hyperfixated on learning html/css because it's the first time in forever where learning something just ~clicks~ and it's so fuckin fun.

@roldan_belenos Ahaha! Love the pun~

That sounds awesome! A setup like that is a lot more forgiving and helps drill the information in through repetition, I love that.

This is by far my least favorite thing a lot of teaching/learning apps are implementing.

People learn through failure. Punishing failure is counterproductive. Shit like this is just another microtransaction paywall (because "why wait? buy hearts to continue learning!").

So lame. I just wanna learn shit, man.
