The NFB Applauds the Introduction of the Access Technology Affordability Act in the Senate
S. 1467 in the United States Senate by Senator Ben Cardin D-MD. Senators John Boozman (R-AR), Ron Wyden (D-Or), and Todd Young (R-IN) are original co-sponsors of the bill. This legislation removes an education and employment barrier commonly experienced by blind Americans who cannot afford the high cost of access technology by creating a refundable tax credit in the amount of $2,000.
As the transformative membership and advocacy organization of #blind people across the fifty states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico, we prioritize #accessibility, inclusion, and the preferences of blind people as we adapt our social media strategy. Our move away from Twitter and toward Mastodon reflects these commitments. National Federation of the Blind Moves Away from Twitter, Establishes Mastodon Server and Account | National Federation of the Blind

Baltimore, Maryland (May 4, 2023): In light of recent events, including the laying off of Twitter’s entire accessibility team and changes to its API that have broken accessible Twitter clients used by our community, the National Federation of the Blind is realigning our social media presence.

At the time it was passed a few years back, there were only 13 states with laws protecting the rights of blind parents. I wonder how many states are remaining today? I am also curious about blind parents living in other countries, their experiences, and if their right to parent is being recognized?
We were blessed to welcome our fourth child into our family a few days ago. As #blind parents, we are always concerned about how hospital staff will react to us. No issues this time, but we are fortunate. not everyone has great experiences in this area. I am proud That I live in a state that has a law on the books protecting the rights of blind parents, AlHamdulillah. I have only been in the state for a couple of months, but from what I understand the #NFB Of AZ played a huge role.
Man, a little disappointed that Cejudo did not re-capture his Bantamweight crown. Excited to see Muhammad get a crack at Welterweight gold in his next fight, as well as an all China battle for the 115 title, potentially. Brings back memories of when I used to cover the sport of #MMA #UFC288

An unofficial guide to using Mastodon and the Fediverse

I learned two new keyboard commands on the Mantis Braille display today: Menu plus left and right keys to move between connected devices. They're going to be really useful especially when I receive texts etc. I don't recall seeing those in the User Guide.
The experience on Mastodon is definitely different, and I can see the appeal, but on some level I do feel limited with being tied down to a specific server. I also don’t like the long usernames when tagging people. Maybe it is just because I’m new here, and not exactly sure how things work, but that will come with experience. I am happy with the switch however.
Happy to welcome the Computer Science and Technology division of the National Federation of the Blind of South Carolina @CSTDofNFBSC to mastodon. As a former member during my time in South Carolina, I can tell you that President Steve Cook and his team are doing great things. #NFB #NFBOfSC
If you missed it from a couple of months back, Lisa and David invited us on the #WhiteCanesConnect podcast to discuss our journeys to the Federation, and the National Organization of Blind Black Leaders during #BlackHistory month.
