Editor and writer, mostly about design, travel, and marketing. Translator too, from Spanish to English. Arrived here fleeing from Twitter but I wish I had made my way over here sooner.
@benfranklin2018 I agree though I am also good with at least a little while of trying them out and not rushing too much. My feeling (no evidence I can offer, however) is that the momentum is towards Post or Mastodon, and I think it’s okay if everyone test drives them and others for a while (just not too long).
@JohanEmpa thank you for the welcome! Glad to be here and hope to figure my way around with some time.

@cyberfelidae "The site’s language — 'boosts' instead of retweets and 'toots' instead of tweets — confused her.

Her first impression: 'What the heck is going on?' she said."

Some of the reporting on how supposedly difficult Mastodon is to navigate strike me as absurd. I am new and I know I still have more to learn but it seems pretty intuitive to me.

@virginiaheffernan I am a big fan and you were one of the few things keeping me over there. Glad to see you are here!

Platforms like #Twitter, #Facebook, #LinkedIn etc are all business that NEED to grow since we, the user are the products.

Revenue should not be a goal of a social platform, there are enough websites out there already who squeeze you for every penny in some form.

The internet wasn't created for profit alone but it seems many have forgotten..

Let's bring that back!

Just reiterating … Mastodon isn’t a “Twitter competitor” in the sense of a rival company making a rival product.
It’s a community that decided to make an alternative together, and you are invited to take part.
@mike I am a bit of an idiot when it comes to the internet and I am figuring this out fine. I think the idea that Mastodon is too complicated is maybe exaggerated perhaps by people who don't want to see a migration here?
@James514 @pedestrian I am new here too, and optimistic. When I see some people half apologizing and describing their mastodon accounts as only "in case Twitter collapses..." I wish they would just get over that other site. I think this could be a lot better than it. (Also I am bad at new tech stuff, and I am figuring my way around pretty easily.)
@martinvanaken Agreed. It seems a little empty, but this place doesn't seem that complicated. And I am someone who is bad when it comes to figuring out tech/social media stuff most of the time.
