@LindaCollins11 But then, one could ask what's the nicest person in the world doing on Twitter?

The European Commission has had enough of Musk's deadbird site -- at least enough to stop paying him for the privilege of swimming in a toxic waste dump -- and people are talking about that.

Which reminds me:

Please don't beat up on people who leave that toxic place, even if you believe, however righteously, that they should have left long ago.

They're doing the right thing now. Thank them, and encourage others to do the same.

No more ads on Elon’s X, EU Commission tells staff

Ads on Musk-owned social media site risk causing ‘reputational damage’ to the EU, its executive says in internal note.

I am a huge fan of Margaret Sullivan's work, and this piece about Musk is spot on -- except that she almost completely undermines her argument by continuing to pour her work into the deadbird site.
So, I have now dumped Twitter (hoping to be called X). Over the last few weeks it's become unbearable witnessing psychopathic fascists jumping on to threads created by people who value human life in all its diversity. The last straw was arseholes mocking the death of an infant.
@TOrynski Greay post. When I left the west coast of Scotland to work in Strasbourg years ago I thought the same. I immediately discovered snow tyres and engaging 2nd gear. I'm still not confident like a Finn when driving on snow but I'm no longer shitting in my pants.

My piece from a few years back about all those British drivers who were telling me that driving in the snow is impossible looks even funnier today when I'm reading it in Helsinki: https://orynski.eu/driving-in-the-snow-is-impossible-period/

:-)

“Driving in the snow is impossible. Period”

@primonatura Well, that's all hope of a transition to EVs in the UK totally screwed.

How to identify a pothole in Scotland…

As my friend said to me: in Scotland we drive on the left on what's left.

Today in 1983, 40 years ago: The ARPANET officially changes to using TCP/IP, the Internet Protocol, effectively creating the Internet.

Oooh, this one turned out nice!
