MN transplant to New England and then to Arizona. Gardener, writer, traveler, poet, singer. Loves husband and son, Golden Retrievers and an excellent Carbonara, Mole Negro and a very dry red wine. Known for making friends laugh and being a really good cook. Now very much in love with the Arizona Sonoran Desert and Mountains. Oh yes--an unabashed progressive liberal and union supporter.
Streaming giants first took over media and now will nickel and dime viewers for everything. And there will be no regulation in the U.S., because,, you know, Republicans,

Charles Blow, who grew up in northwest Louisiana as Mike Johnson did:

"He is from a part of the country where your nemesis will smile at you and promise to pray for you, where people will quickly submit that they 'love the sinner but hate the sin,' where one hand can hold a Bible while the other holds a shackle. He is from a place where people use religion to brand their hatred as love so that they act on it cheerfully and without guilt."

Where he and I are from, even would-be oppressors can be affable.

The morning bang bang on a chosen window has become our alarm clock.
Short of painting the glass black, what will stop this mad-mated pair of cardinals from whacking at their own reflections? We are now on to method number 26 to stop them. Yes, I have created a spreadsheet of each failed method.
I believe one can be heartbroken for all sides in a war. There have been multiple wars, insurrections, and dictators raised up and cut down on this earth in my 76 years. None of these spared civilians including children. Almost all of these actions were led by men or groups of men. Would the world be a different place if women were the political leaders? Possibly.
Why has the UAW not endorsed Biden? Do these folks really think the former guy will do anything to increase wages or support unions?
Planting another tree come October. So far I have planted in my southern Arizona Yard 9 trees. Save Climate Change by planting trees--not a universal solution, but each bit we all do helps. Install Solar panels, drive a Hybrid or Electric Vehicle, take trains instead of planes, and walk walk walk.
My first career was as a Social Worker. Just as I was a burnt-out one and deciding to leave, AFSCME was recruiting at our location. I had filled out the union paperwork and then resigned abruptly with another person when a judge restored custody of a six-year-old to a father we had recommended not to have custody. Then within a few weeks, that child was beaten near to death. I was paid so little doing this work that I was eligible for food stamps.
SAG-AFTRA/Writers strikes have trickled down to Stylists, Hair and Makeup Artists, Musicians, and Designers all of whom have had multiple events canceled, and the celebrities they make look good will be on the line, at home, or their vacation place. It is impacting emerging designers the most since they likely have no reserve to live on or enough fame to be hired for weddings or private parties. The strikes are way overdue. I hope the studios and streaming services are serious.
How can a retired person go on strike? Sometimes I am just exhausted by everything and wish I lived near the ocean so I could go every day to just veg on a beach ..do nothing, think about nothing, talk to nobody. I am certain this malaise has something to do with my detoxing from several years of Tramadol for back pain. Lumbar fusion was April 19 and PT is well under way, so no need for more than occasional Tylenol. 15 days of 3 digit heat also has something to do with it.
In pool for an hour and watching monsoon storms raining on Mt. Wrightson in the Santa Rita Mountains and then moved over towards us and the thunderhead peeled off and the storm below dies. Another dry night in Corona de Tucson AZ.
