Last week's top hike was from Grosse Scheidegg to Rosenlaui in the Central Swiss Alps.
This thought crossed my mind: I walked here first in the summer of 1965, as a 10 year old.
Longterm exhumation in the area is ca 0.5 mm/a. Add another 0.5 mm/a post glacial rebound since the last ice age, and you have a total uplift of 1.0 mm/a.
Since the time that I walked here first 60 years ago, all these mountains have become 6 cm taller!
A sobering thought...
