I thought Mapstodon might be interested in ESRI's 2025-26 contracts with CBP and ICE.

We are having a new roof put on this week. It is made of copper-colored aluminum and should last forever. It's too expensive, but we chose it for durability and environmental reasons: it should reflect summer heat (high SRI) and prevent future dumpsters of asphalt shingles.

I had not seen this when it came out. A whistleblower reported Apple had employees analyzing conversations recorded via Siri. Apple's response at the time had a lot of weasel room in it (I couldn't find more recent responses).

So it doesn't retain actual "requests" (but might retain background conversation?) and it will AI process conversations to build a profile of users' friends and relatives who haven't themselves agreed to use Siri?

(yesterday)

1. We went out to collect some "urban" apples to make cider. One tree was too big to shake down the tiny apples, one was a seedling with no fruit, but one was just right and we got about 50 free small fuji-like apples.
2. They finished installing our heat pump minisplit system. But the temperature was so perfect, we couldn't really test them.
3. We've started reading actual books after dinner. Mine is a bit of a trash novel, but it's a nice ritual.

A local grocery store (Stop and Shop, part of Ahold) has installed this creepy surveillance tower in its parking lot.

Chris Gilliard writes about luxury surveillance, but there is an even hotter market in the bourgeois fear of the dark.
