I tried the v1.0 Ivory app offering. It's what you would expect a mastodon client to be, and is a familiar layout if coming from Tweetbot. Seven day free trial is really limited, and the app is subscriptions only going from 15usd to over 20usd for a "premium" offering. I am putting this on pause for now, until both the platform (content) and app mature.
@pauls @GregM This not about devs earning a living, this is about value from a consumer perspective. I don’t believe in just paying for something I get little to no value for. That’s basically all. It’s not the app it’s the value of what mastodon provides at this time, which still pales to the other SN.
Yeah, I’ll be sticking with Mastoot even with Ivory makes its debut. 14.99 or 2 bucks a month just isn’t worth the content that mastodon offers.
Even if Ivory is the greatest app ever, the Mastodon content just doesn’t justify me paying a subscription for an app I’ll rarely use.
Getting a kick out of podcasters/YT’ers struggling to say what’s improved / new with a new homepod that still costs 299 and has 2 less speakers (tweeters) than the OG.
I sure hope iOS 16.3 fixes this important Siri command. Works fine on device, but doesn’t when running under a Siri command.
@GregM Yeah, I tried a couple one evening and settled on Mastoot, for now.
@GregM The Alpha’s close up really fast, so I gave up for now. I’m not sure the content here warrants a big investment (time or money). But we shall see.
@GregM Apps are pretty bare boned IMHO. Been spoiled with multi-device use and timeline sync. I am sure they are coming, but this platform is way more “involved” and complex.
@GregM Part of the reason why I am not leaving. I have too many local sports followers. Plus, legit news sources.
