I have seen a lot of really smart people dismiss ChatGPT as being nothing more than a novel presentation and UI for information already on the internet, a presentation that is incomplete and often dangerously inaccurate. This criticism is entirely true and fair, but I think folks are ignoring that it also applies to Google circa 2001, and that wound up mattering a fair amount.
