Hey @OJ_Astro, I’m asking it here as you are active and this might interest more fedi fellows.
I’m preparing some papers about the carbon footprint in astronomy and discussing mitigation strategies. So far, we had a great support from @NatureAstronomy (eg @jknodlseder et al.), but I’m looking for alternative journals to publish this kind of work.
A&A doesn’t want to publish these papers, albeit it “publishes papers on all aspects of astronomy and astrophysics”. So, would you accept papers on astronomy’s environmental impact and send them to review ? I guess you might find many reviewers from the @a4e community.
Before you answer, I want to emphasize that astronomy is performed from the Earth (obviously). It can be studied only if our society are stable enough to fund fundamental science. However, the climate crisis is going to challenge this, so the only hope to continue astronomy over an endless period of time is to find a way to do low-carbon science. So, I’m convinced these research papers are needed to move towards sustainability.
Note that the papers could go to the method and instrumentation section of astro-ph.
