We were similarly scientifically astonished when we discovered plasmids and again when we discovered that our mitochondrial dna is passed down from our maternal lines, then our discovery that we are ‘bags of viruses’. In Britsh English, there is very little difference in sound. If you undertook elocution lessons, then this tiny difference is known and practicticed. The majority of the English speaking world will hear no difference and pronounce with no difference.
