My dog Locke had surgery the other day (had to borrow for it).

He was getting better, but now he's got a fever I cant get under control and I'm back at the emergency vet clinic. On the phone they were talking about hospitalizing him. Yesterday when I was here (the fever started yesterday and then subsided and now its back) they said if I had to hospitalize him the ballpark costs would be somewhere around $1720.25CAD for the two day stay with what he needs to get better.

[It was 2587 and 3 days]

After calling relatives from the animal hospital, one was able to borrow the funds to help me pay the people, but it's a lot to pay back on top of the surgery.

If you can help or boost, I've now got a ko-fi drive for his hospital fees. He's been my best friend for a long time, he's such a loving dog.

If there's any extra by some accident after paying his hospital fees I will of course donate it to whatever pet charity people prefer.

So. My dog had an intestinal surgery a couple days ago.

And he seems to be having some recovery complications. Can someone tell me how I make one of those crowdfunding posts to see if anyone is able to help donate money to pay for medical costs?

He's getting better, in several ways, hes less lethargic, hes keeping food down and drinking water again, but he's got a fever I'm having a hard time keeping under control and I find myself back at the vet again and I'm quickly running out of relatives to borrow money from for the medical cots.

How do I set up one of those ko fi donation drive things to try to pay for his medical bills and see if anyone is willing to help?

I'm not angry about this, contrary to what it may sound like: I'm amused. Perhaps I'm easily amused.

Thing is, it's a pretty normal thing - and it's happening a bit more now given recent topic of discussion here - for me to wind up having conversations with people about the value of anonymity or pseudonymity, in which people volunteer the opinion directly to me, usually in agreement with me, that anonymous commenters are not all bad, or that there's some value to allowing anonymous online comments because of some example... out there (*waves hands airily*) somewhere.

To *me*. They say this directly *to me*. While I am standing directly in front of them, as it were, virtually, *using a pseudonym*.

You know the ID in my wallet does not actually say "Siderea, Sibylla Bostoniensis", right? My professional license does not say "Siderea, Sibylla Bostoniensis, LMHC". That is not what I put at the top of my IRS 1040. It's not what my patients call me.

So, post-backups are important - but what about follower backups?

Here's my idea. In your profile you link somewhere (linktree, carrd, etc - some static page you can expect will stay up. Maybe even have two of them.)

When someone follows you, they don't just follow your fedi address account, they follow you at your carrd-equivalent.

Periodically it checks your carrd(or w/e) for updated fedi addresses, and if they've changed, it copies them over with all the same settings as the previous ones.

So if your server goes dead, or if you want to move shop because of defederation problems, or if you moved to a selfhosted instance, or whatever other reason you might have to move, you won't lose the connection with all your followers.

Also, if you open up a new one (pixelfed, peertube, etc) that you want to make public, put it on your Carrd, and everyone who follows you already will automatically get your new account too.

It would also be good for managing multiple profiles on different local-instances, and then linking them together. #carrd #follower #fediverse #backup #migration #mastodon #firefish #misskey #stability #resilience

Bad news for the followers of my newer account ( @[email protected] ) : it appears the #VGMNation server was shut down without my knowledge earlier today, meaning I have no way to get back all of the followers there, so I'll just pray you guys can find me again with enough effort...

Hi! Hawkwinter here.

Been on Calckey.social / Firefish.social a couple days but haven't made an intro post yet.

I'm not brand-new to Fedi, but new to Calckey & been really liking it here the past couple days for general social-media-ing {mostly Friendica before, it wasn't bad but I think I like Calckey better}, You can also find me periodically posting art from .art @Hawkwinter

I do 3d character stuff, 2d graphic design and cartography stuff. A bit of 2d character art. Tech/it stuff. Programming. Working on a Visual Novel in Ren'py. I'd like to figure out how to make VRChat and VTuber avatars.

Not currently accepting commissions, but I would probably like to in the future.

I like TTRPGs? Particularly GURPS, & heavily homebrewed D&D3.x with Eclipse. Also Rolemaster 4e. Played other stuff over the years but those ones are my favorites.

Curious about HERO & HARNMaster. If I'm going to Shadowrun I like 4e best by a wide margin. Not a big D&D 5e fan. I have a gripes with its mechanics and setting game design. Super rules-lite games aren't really my thing either as you could guess from my list of favorites - I like the ones where it feels like I'm running around in {or simply running if I'm GM} a simulated world with humanlike NPC behavior {to preempt the question of 'Why not just videogames'}. I'm aware my RPG tastes are niche, & that's okay.

For entertainment, I also like Wuxia, and Xianxia, and the Forgotten Realms, and Tolkien.

I'm interested in sustainable longterm architecture (to last centuries, not decades), science and tech, passive heating and cooling systems, and high-efficiency masonry woodstoves. 'Fancy-offgrid'. Regenerative agriculture and watershed management is neat too.

Like a lot of the people here, I think my worldview has become a bit more collectivist at the societal level rather than hyper-individualist with indifference to the exploitative capitalism we have now, though I don't think violent revolution is a good idea, instead favoring building out collective networks of people that takes care of its members and federates with similar collectives and then can lobby the government also as a collective unit rather than leaving individuals to fend for themselves against the rich and the powerful, is a better way to go. (Something like guilds. Or a labor union not dependent on having a specific job, or like how I've seen Jehovahs Witnesses have their own sub-society of networking and helping eachother out that's not always for-profit).

I occasionally read some philosophy. Nietzsche has a few neat ideas on individual self improvement, but the Tao te Ching has neat ideas on other stuff, like a few ideas on how a functional society would work. I'm not going to pretend to be a well-read philosophy student though.

In addition to regular social-media-ing, Gamedev-type stuff might get posted from here sometimes too, or maybe it'll be a thing to get its own profile? I'm really not sure. Anyway, here's some misc examples of my work in different mediums / styles. The custom ingame menu screenshot is a WIP. I've been doing a good bit of reprogramming and extending things under the hood.
