Been living in Netherlands 2 months now. So far, peaceful. Can't help but keep up with the news from the US, then get all stressed again. But I'm not afraid of being shot at the grocery store, and that's a huge step in the right direction. I find it interesting that the Dutch are very tall people & I am rather short. Yet everything in the grocery store is sold in tiny portions! No jumbo sizes at all. Yet I can't reach the top shelf of my fridge because it's too tall! Having lots of fun!
A push to the extreme right of many western governments is a disturbing trend and cannot be coincidence. It is enticing the masses to support policies that go against their better interests. If ever the workers of the world needed to unite, it is now.
@rbreich
I certainly feel like he should be prosecuted, but it also feels empty because the likelihood of a conviction is slim & even if convicted, would he really be imprisoned? He has never paid for anything he's done in his life. In fact his callousness & indecency were rewarded with the presidency. Where we're going as a country is a question yet unanswered.
@VictorZiblis @ElaineDyson I completely agree, including that I have been moving further left as I become older.
During the US-Iran World Cup game, an Iranian player was on the ground & an American player came over to help him up. Now THAT is when I feel patriotic. The Iranians tried to bring attention to injustice to women in their country,
until their government threatened their families, and Americans joined the protest of LGBTQ laws in Qatar. Players from both teams displayed good world citizenship and decency. Proud of both and all the other players who have made a stand against hatred and injustice.
@ElaineDyson I maintain that any society with homeless people is a failure and needs to reconsider its values. We have so much of it here in the states & so many wealthy, it's a disgrace.
