The picture that probably best explains both why #Russia can’t capture the “30-50 km strip of land” (Rubio’s words) in #Donbas, and why #Ukraine doesn’t just want to give it up to Russians for free, even if we put aside any legal or moral arguments.

The yellow are fortification lines built by Ukraine since the original Russian invasion in 2014, and laboriously improved since. The density of these lines in Donetsk oblast’ exceeds everything that had been built elsewhere. When Putin says “we’re ready for war, but we want diplomacy” he was likely told by his generals that continued assaults on these lines will be suicidal for Russia, in literal sense.

Which is precisely why Russia wants to get them without fight as part of some silly “deal”, and why Ukraine won’t be agreeing to that until really losing the war. Letting Russians into these fortifications would also mean, that Ukraine would need to build another 30-50 km of similar lines to the west from Donetsk oblast’ to prevent repeated invasion after Russia signs the “eternal peace agreement”.

re: AirPods Pro 3 fit being different from previous generations.

With previous APP, I had always used the smaller ear tip on the right side as it seemed to fit better that way. I started off using the size “S” ear tip on the right again with the APP3, but it never felt right. No pain, but it never seemed securely in place. Switching to size “XS” only made it worse.

I decided to go back to regular size for both ear tips, and that actually ended up working best.

I transferred my iPhone 15 pro to my new 17 pro using home WiFi (not hotel). It took less than one hour to get a usable new phone, including cell service transfer and Apple Watch transfer. The remainder of the apps took another 30 minutes to download. The whole experience was completely smooth and fast. I don’t understand the extensive discussions about transfer procedures.

Remember that time when Charlie Kirk called for Joe Biden to be executed? I do.

He didn't even bother to posit any particular crime.

@vitor What we know as a nation is that it did not take AI videos to convince half the country to act against their own best interests. Anti-minority wedge issues, plain old spoken propaganda, and cherry-picked video was more than sufficient. I’m not sure fancier fake video will make things any worse, but we’ll see.
@atpfm my gawd, the irony lost on Marco bending over backwards to rubbish the Apple CEO’s obvious (to literally everyone else on the planet) motives
has nearly pushed me over the edge.

@apophis @futurebird It's not a time when the representatives of cis manhood are speaking well for the side.

I publicly advertise as he/him because in practice that's what I use, I present as very nerdy-masc, and I want to normalize the practice for the sake of people who care about it more; but honestly, I am getting gender apathetic in such a way that if someone refers to me as "they" or "she" I'm not gonna be steamed about it. Unless it's "she" as an insult; then the fact that they consider that an insult is the problem.

The NY Times discovers that Trump is -- by far -- the most corrupt public official in American history. (But of course it refuses to use that word in the headline, because reasons...)

The Times will now return to its regular normalization of Trump extremism and criminality.
