This is a strangely phrased announcement from Speaker Johnson, but if it’s true, then the FL-2 district, currently held by Rep. Dunn, may need a new member of Congress before the end of the term.

You might be wondering why these texts aren’t enough to make the GOP party leadership send Gonzales packing. Steven Dennis tells you (on X):

We have corrected an error in the original post brought to our attention by the reaction of some Senate Democrats’ to the murder yesterday of Alex Pretti: https://www.govtrack.us/posts/570/2026-01-24_no-new-laws-this-week?1
We're at the Capitol today meeting with folks who care about making Congress a transparent and more technologically modern institution. Here's Speaker Johnson making opening remarks.

Per Craig Caplan on X: 216-215: House narrowly approved the rule for the Senate changes to the 2025 GOP budget resolution, allowing for floor debate and a final vote.

3 Republicans Massie (KY), Spartz (IN) and Turner (OH) joined all Democrats in voting No.

This means the House has also blocked some avenues to taking back their constitutional power to set tariffs.

Per Craig Caplan on X: 206-222: 9 House GOP joined all Dems in defeating an effort to kill Rep. Luna's proxy voting for new parents discharge petition, included in a rule for 4 bills being considered this week. 9R No: Burchett Kiley LaLota Lawler Luna Mackenzie Miller-OH Steube & Van Drew.

Per Sahil Kapur on X: “SCALISE: "This bill doesn't even mention the word Medicaid a single time."

The budget resolution doesn't use the word. It tells Energy & Commerce Cmte, which oversees Medicaid, to find cuts of $880 billion. Republicans openly say spending less on Medicaid will be part of that.”

The TikTok ban had been in the making for a long time. As anyone could have predicted, First Amendment considerations were put aside as soon as someone played the National Security card. (We're not taking sides on the ban. Just that it's predictable.)

2025 Senate Schedule is out. Per reporters on X:

- 180 in-session days. Compare that to just 102 this year.
- No recess until mid-March
- Friday sessions
- no sizable break again until August
