Dragon. Agender, otherkin, occasional artist and writer, infosec engineer, in about that order. Avatar by Xeirla, header by CoffeeDragon. Singular they/them preferred.

Also on @Goldkin (awoo.space) for follow requests that work there.

The illustrations here are from me, but some of these were adopts. Character design credits:

Reminder that I'm doing Art Fight this year, in case anyone is looking for someone to attack! #artfight #artfight2025
Tbh, really enjoying the Lisa Frank Blade Runner aesthetic of the latest expansion

PS: there's a lot of exonerative language in their AI policy stating that this isn't being used to train their model or third parties. It's useful to know that, assuming their policy is followed, that's likely true for now.

But it can be simultaneously true that this is aimed to (1) increase adoption of the feature without yet pulling training data and (2) that the policy can easily change later, under the guise of seemingly innocuous third-party changes.

Either way, worth opting out now if you're not okay with all of that.

And no, the setting is not present as best as I can tell anywhere else in their page, even where it shows the AI Companion feature as off. It's a special "opt out" hyperlink that appears at the top of the page, then disappears when clicked. I attempted to capture its contents but could not reproduce it after the fact, since I did not expect it to disappear and lack a second Pro account.

This way of doing things is absolute catnip for attackers, who serve fake links like this all the time via cross-site scripting (XSS). I took the extra step of verifying this wasn't such an attack, following the full attribution path for their email, and even with it all appearing correct and without surprising metadata that may indicate XSS, I'm still not convinced this is legitimate.

Anyway, absolutely shameful way of rolling this out. I get that there's no regulation for this right now and that this is probably Zoom engineers setting this up in the easiest way possible instead of deliberate nefariousness (gods, I hope), but please fucking do better than this.

PSA: Zoom is trying to automatically opt-in its Pro users into its AI bullshit. Their deadline for opt-out is 8/28/2024* before they start collecting your data automatically.

If you're like me and have to use Zoom to talk to family or coworkers, and aren't okay with having your data exfiltrated in ways that will inevitably be bought and sold, they hid the setting in a pop-up notification at the top of their settings page:
https://zoom.us/profile/setting?tab=aicompanion

Infuriatingly, this setting disappears when clicked and didn't initially appear when I navigated to settings on their website, so I'm not able to demonstrate it here. It's so fucking suspicious that I checked if it was a phishing email, but as best as I can tell, it seems to be legitimate.

Anyway: if you're using Zoom, (1) verify their email if you got it, as phishing scams can easily reuse how they did this and (2) go do the thing.

* The top date is 8/29/2024, but they then state 8/28 further down the document. I would recommend trusting the earlier deadline so they don't get the benefit of user confusion there.

Have some Art Fight doodles done over the past week. Decided to try breaking out my Copics and stretch some old art muscles again. #artfight #ArtFight2024

Apparently our local PC recycler is furry-operated and, no joke, frequented by the local protogen fursuit community. Small world.
