Sr Airman Roger Fortson was at home when cops entered unannounced & shot him dead 6 times.

The cop claimed he acted in self defense when he saw Fortson holding a firearm—which Fortson legally owned. The cop is on admin leave.

How are you going to illegally break into an innocent man's home unannounced & claim self defense? Horrific injustice.

Horrific. Police in Florida kill Roger Fortson, a U.S. Airman and 23-year-old Black man in his own home. The unidentified officer is on unpaid administrative leave and has not been charged with any crimes yet.

Did you know that the USA has *never* elected a Pakistani American to Congress?

I’d be the first—ever.

My campaign for Congress in IL-11 is about economic, climate, & social Justice. And it’s about representation, because representation matters.

How amazing a rebuke to bigotry if Americans stood United for justice & helped me make history? I need your support. Join my campaign for US Congress. Sign up to volunteer and donate any amount at www.qasimrashid.com — because justice cant wait.

Teachers can only deduct $250 in school supplies on their taxes, but billionaire Harlon Crow can write off his super yacht.😐

Why? Because millionaire politicians funded by billionaires & corporations write tax law for billionaires. We need a Congress for working people—not the .1%

This is yet another reason why my run for US Congress is 100% people funded. We need public servants accountable to people, not corporate funded politicians accountable to billionaires.

I'm sharing this as an actual solution to empower civilians.

Please check out TurnSignl, an app founded by Black civil rights lawyers. It lets you video call a lawyer asap through voice activation or single touch when police pull you over. The lawyer manages & records the entire convo w/police & works to get you home safe.

It's like $7/mo and free for low income people. It's in a few dozen states & will be nationwide shortly. I have it myself.

...COVID and ill people struggle for healthcare, BIPOC struggle against white supremacy, & the list goes on.

Everyone has a struggle you know nothing about. And that struggle is what makes us human. And that humanity is our reminder to be kind to one another, always. And that kindness is what leads to unity. And that unity, that unity is what transforms individual human beings into a successful humanity.

And our humanity, my friends, our humanity is worth struggling for.

I don't suffer from mental illness. Many I know have that struggle. I don't suffer from any physical handicaps. Many I know have that struggle. I don't suffer from substance abuse. Many I know have that struggle. I don't suffer from hunger, poverty, or loneliness. Many I know have these struggles.

Everyone has a struggle. In 2022 we saw working families struggling to put food on table, DREAMers & refugees struggle for recognition...

Closing thread on 2022.

One definition of privilege is when you think something isn't a problem because it isn't a problem for you. We improve society by being conscious and aware of our privilege, and being sensitive to the struggles of others. This is a difficult exercise, but this struggle against injustice is the true Jihad.

For example...

Let us strive in 2023 to alleviate the struggles of others, and uplift all humanity on the tenets of justice.

Much love to all of you for your amazing compassion and support in my struggle for universal human rights. I am grateful for your continued love, prayers, and support as we elevate our struggle for justice in 2023 and beyond. Let's get to work.

As a human rights lawyer who has done extensive immigration work, let me make something absolutely clear.

Asylum is legal immigration.
There's no "port of entry" requirement.
There's no "visa" requirement.
There's no "first country" requirement.
You enter the United States, and you apply for asylum.

Because asylum is legal immigration. Period.

Period.
