Now I'm thinking about the future of AIs and robotics quite a lot. More soon...
A great podcast interview with Dan Turchin, as we discussed AI and the impact on the future of jobs. Find it on Spotify (https://tinyurl.com/Turchin01Spotify), and Apple Podcasts (https://tinyurl.com/Turchin03Apple).

Here in Exmouth, Western Australia, for the total solar eclipse. This one is a hybrid, so the path is a bit narrow (no 360 degree sunset), but excellent all the same.
Sometimes I question how Amazon has parsed its segment bestseller lists (such as spiritual & sci-fi/fantasy in Italy), where today Unfettered Journey sits at #21 - but, right behind The Satanic Verses and One Hundred Years of Solitude isn't a bad spot. ;)
One last book awards contest for me, the 2023 Book Excellence Awards, and just announced that Unfettered Journey was the winner in the science fiction category. That's 14 minor awards, and time to hang up the cleats. https://honorees.bookexcellenceawards.com/#!/2023-Winners/c/145959645/offset=45

First time riding in a self-driving car! A little scary at first (in the back seat, no one in the front, a ghost driving), but you quickly get over it. Good emotional marketing to give the car a name – “Gilda” driving in this case. Here in SF, Cruise offers these as an Uber-type service with an app.
An interesting hypothesis - a solution to the paradox? This paper, The Fermi Paradox Revisited: Technosignatures and the Contact Era - calculates that the time until signals might on average reach other intelligent creatures is at least a few thousand years.

Writing Speculative Fiction with Gary Bengier, For All Sci Fi Enthusiasts

Listen to this episode from Become a Writer Today on Spotify. I'm a big science fiction reader. I also like to watch a lot of science fiction on television. But I have little interest in writing science fiction because it's the type of genre that I like to read when I want to switch off.The best science fiction or speculative fiction books always have a big idea behind them. They have topics they want to tackle and often explain how these things may change our world for the better or worse.I love learning from speculative science fiction authors because it's great to hear how they approach big ideas and turn them into a piece of work that readers can enjoy. That's what this week's guest has done. His name is Gary Bengier, and he is the author of the award-winning speculative fiction or cross-fiction book, Unfettered Journey. I was fascinated to catch up with Gary because he had another career before he became a science fiction author. He was the CFO for eBay back in the late 1990s. It's fascinating to talk to somebody who had a corporate career but secretly wanted to become a writer and an author. In this episode, we discuss:How Gary funded his dream careerLessons from the corporate worldThe importance of measuring your output as a writerPractical tips for hitting deadlinesResources:Gary's WebsiteWhat Is Hard Science Fiction?
