You are right it does have its funny moments. Was checking out kbin.social to see what it was like and it's funny how lemmy.ml which used to be a safe place for pro Putin and pro Kim Un people is now being pushed out because they didn't make their beliefs explicitly known and accepted too many mainstream individuals. lemmy.ml isn't the safe place it used to be when they venture out of lemmygrad.ml with this take over.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to lemmy.ml, since instance being overrun with people putting down instead of supporting their idea of the communist cause can't be making them happy.

No do you worship people?

Because it's up to each instance to decide what they want. If people don't like it they can migrate to one that fits it.

I think people are too used to the idea of a one place shop and except lemmy to be everything, but it's better to think of instances as separate sites. Like how sites might be built off wordpress but each is their own.

I understand people want a centralized reddit type replacement when it comes to interactions for everyone that is involved, but lemmy isn't that type of place. Each instance is insulated as much as it wants to be.

Yeah, if people wanted more lax moderation they'd have been using the now dead Voat or 4chan.

Even lemmygrad.ml wants censorship

We’ll go through each account application with due diligence, but we would like you to know before you request an account that Lemmygrad is a Marxist instance, principally Marxist-Leninist. We like Stalin and we uphold the DPRK’s sovereignty and legitimacy over the whole of Korea. We love China’s Socialism with Chinese Characteristics.

There is no mainstream social media that doesn't have censorship. Even reddit that has been the cause of lot of adoption of lemmy is censorship.

People do gravitate towards communities that have the moderation standards they want. The other options is spinning up your own.

Not to different from how it was in reddit where subreddits that have been banned over the years and still continued to function. Either way, beauty of lemmy is that there is nothing preventing users of lemmygrad.ml from viewing the content on this site logged out or creating an account here.

Each instance is going to have their separate set of moderation approaches. There isn't one that is entirely "free speech". Already seen what happens with those with examples like voat. Then there's 4chan. So there will be rules to foster the atmosphere instances want. Even lemmygrad.ml has application processes, bans, and blocks of instances so there is all a mutual understanding of the rules of each instance.

They are The Donald of their sect.

By experience, most internet users who self-identified as Communists and oppose Stalin tend to be either brainwashed people in countries that are under the rule of Westen European diaspora or trolling bots. Is there any real Communists who actually oppose Stalin? Stalin receive the most slander in Western European diaspora because he refused the destruction of USSR through an unsustainable war against Fascism and he forced the desolution of alliance by British and French empires with Hitler’s Nazi Germany. The Liberals complained about the non-agreession pact between Stalin and Hitler, even when the Western European empires forced Stalin to make the peace pact, that buy time for war preparation by USSR against Hitler at a time when USSR is too underindustrialized and too devasted from the Russian civial war that was more damaging than World War 1.

DPR Korea isn’t sovereign over the whole of Korea. Not yet, anyway. Hopefully soon.

They are not your mainstream idea of socialists or communist, but have more in common with alt right fascist groups than they themselves would like to admit. Just the worshiping of centralized figure heads with life long terms who happen to have centralized power and wealth than the people they rule over seems contrary to the ideal of communism and socialism.

They even use libs as an insult just like alt right groups do. They have more in common with fascism despite what the mantra of them saying they are communist or socialists.

Some delightful comments by them https://web.archive.org/web/20230608014753/https://lemmygrad.ml/post/668436

Yeah, and it is the beauty of open source where people can go and make it their own. I think bigger question in the future will be more on what instances to stay federated with as the userbase grows enough to have enough activity to not miss being defederated from some instances.
