Graham’s mother scolded him, slammed the door, and left him alone in the shrinking quiet of that small wooden room.
But the silence didn’t last.
Footsteps crossed the floorboards—slow, heavy, getting closer.
Someone was coming.

Pt. 2 | The Bedroom
Before him stood a wooden bunk bed, rough-hewn and fragrant with pine.
Sunlight filtered through a dusty window, brushing carved animals and wooden tops scattered on the floor.

He stepped toward his toys—but a thud froze him.

“Just making sure you’re still alive. No supper tonight!”

He climbed into bed, clutching his toys, retreating into imagination.

His breath faltered as he reached for a dented gold watch—its ticking louder than his heartbeat.
“Guess I won’t be going on that vacation.”
He inhaled, eyes shut, exhaled… then opened them once more—finding himself in a place and time long since forgotten.
