"In a document released Monday, Pope Francis addressed surrogacy, saying it “violates” both the dignity of the child and the woman, who “becomes a mere means subservient to the arbitrary gain or desire of others.”"
So does forcing a pregnant person to carry to term an unwanted child or to continue a non-viable pregnancy also violate the dignity of the woman and fetus? Doesn't forcing someone to give birth make the subservient to the desires of others?
@Sheril Not everyone who works in a library is a librarian, and they do a lot of work making the library run as well as it does for little recognition. Including helping people find books and other materials.
A person who works in a different branch and with whom I am barely nominally acquainted with has decided that I am a troublemaker so I'm just going to lean into that. And completely ignore their existence.
You know what I love about Walmart? One of the richest families on the planet who pay their employees sub-living wages so that many of them need assistance, and then Walmart goes and removes almost all the checkout clerks, converting check stands to self checkout so that everyone who shops there also has the privilege of working there for free. Brilliant.
So because our supervisor has fragile mental health, the rest of us have to suppress and ignore our feelings and our mental health in order to protect his. Who is this helping exactly? I'm so fucking over it.
@Subumbral @KitMuse @bookstodon I am still traumatized by that book. One of the most horrifying books I've read (because I don't read horror!).
Half of recent US inflation due to high corporate profits, report finds
Thinktank report says ‘resounding evidence’ shows companies continue to keep prices high even as their inflationary costs drop
The Guardian@bkm every time I see them with their stupid thumbs up I think of Little suck-a-thumb who got his thumbs cut off.
@Likewise @bookstodon Thornhedge by T. Kingfisher. A novella really. A different take on Sleeping Beauty. And one of my most favorite authors. And almost finished with another novella, The Salt Grows Heavy by Cassandra Khaw. Her writing is florid and poetical and not for everyone, but I enjoy it.
It's 4:30 in the afternoon and I just put fresh sheets in the bed. Is it too early to go to bed?
