@sandrolinux @stux I wanted to practice and fully manage my own host completely. So I pay like 3$ a month for a basic VPS in hetzner. I host my blog there, a Nextcloud instance, a miniflux instance, a gitea instance…. I think that’s all at the moment. It’s pretty nice and cheap if you like to play around and manage everything yourself.

@[email protected] I was initially going to go with a new VPS on hetzner, cause that’s where I have my current VPS for my other random self hosted stuff. But I just opted to go with mastohost actually. It’s actually up and running already, took like five minutes. Just need to work through all the initial admin setup stuff now and I should be all set.

@Gargron doh, never mind. Looks like the majority of mastodon domains that I’d be interested in using are already taken. So I’ll have to go with something else.

@Gargron I’d like to setup a general mastodon instance similar to the ones you and @stux run. Are there any rules/permissions around using mastodon in the domain name? I thought I recalled seeing something about that at one point.

@billyjoebowers you just reminded me of the capybara account I was following and I’m just now realizing it stopped posting some time ago. It was non stop capybara pics all day every day.
