I’m not trying to tempt anyone back to Twitter, but I did a thread of film recommendations for Easter (by platform) over there, if that’s of interest. https://x.com/filmfan1971/status/1774154344205611326?s=46&t=nvac-SF7ie00v-U3yilh5A

SHORT THREAD OF FILM RECOMMENDATIONS FOR EASTER WEEKEND. By platform. @BBCiPlayer Recommendation: Full Time (2021). Just in case you *still* haven’t watched it, despite me banging on about it for over a year.

@SpankTM I hope you get to see the version I saw there recently, with the restored Miriam Hopkins bedroom scene added on at the end.
@justin Basically, films made before 1934, when the Hayes Code was enforced. So, basically, early 1930s films with a surprising amount of sex, booze, drugs, lingerie (SO MUCH LINGERIE), adultery, violence and other racy stuff that would be banned by the end of 1934.
I’m not sure that #PreCodeApril will necessarily work on Mastodon, but just in case it does, here’s my Pre-Code list on Letterboxd. https://letterboxd.com/filmfan1971/list/pre-code-films/
Pre-Code Films

A list of American Pre-Code films. Additional suggestions welcomed, as the list is by no means complete. The top 100 are personal favourites / recommendations and are in approximate order of preference. Seen: 1 - 274 (listed alphabetically after 100) Unseen: 275 - 933 2021 was the first official "Pre-Code April" and Pre-Code April 2023 is currently in full swing. Check out #PreCodeApril hashtag on Twitter to see how it’s all going / join in.

NETFLIX RECOMMENDATION!

Sean Baker’s Red Rocket, one of the best films of 2021, has just been added to Netflix. Don’t miss it!

So farewell then, Tom “Rocky” Cotton,
Banged up for setting fire to Kaff’s Caff,
And claiming on the insurance,
You pretended to be Sonia’s dad,
(Bit weird, ‘cos one text to Carol would have sorted that out),
And you turned out to be Dottie’s dad,
But that never went anywhere.

OCCASIONAL FILM RECOMMENDATION.

Out of Time (2003), my favourite Denzel Washington film, is finally available on Amazon Prime. I’ve been waiting years for it to show up on a streaming service.

Horror fans may like to know that The Lodge (2019) has just been added to @NetflixUK. Pretty sure it didn’t get a UK theatrical release, and it definitely deserved one. My review for @NerdlyUK: https://www.nerdly.co.uk/2020/05/12/the-lodge-blu-ray-review-2/

The Top Ten Films of 2023

A list of the best films I saw in 2023, including several films I saw at festivals that won’t be out in the UK until 2024 (e.g. Poor Things, Hit Man etc). Similarly, things like Tár (my favourite film of last year) are on my Best of 2022 list.  However, I’m making an exception for Full Time, as it’s my favourite UK release of this year. Note: La Morsure / Bitten, at number 100, would be in the actual Top Ten (it was the film we voted Best Feature on my Sitges jury), but I don’t think it’s even had…

So farewell then, Keanu Taylor,
Festively MURDERED in the best Christmas episode in years,
After you found out your beloved son Albie,
Who you recently kidnapped to stop Sharon taking him to Abu Dhabi,
Was actually Phil’s,
So you got RAGE and tried to do a strangle on his mum.
