I agree that conformity is certainly one of the big causes of many of the crisis we face today, although I will argue it does have it's advantages. But most people are too far on the conformity side.

For the ToM claim, is the idea that they have a harder time understanding the nature of the other, or that they simply care less about the approval?

@wearywulf I'd never heard the word hiverarchy before, but I like it. It's so evocative.

I definitely don't agree with all your claims (after all, diversity is our strength), but I do think there a strong tendency to replace internal morality with what gets you praised as moral by the group.

ie: speaking out and causing a problem would be amoral
