I think Musk still leads him by a solid amount, but he’s catching up. Especially with GPT “Adult Mode”.
Software development pre-AI: “output and activity based metrics are easy to track but counter productive because, e.g. LoC count is stupid because every line is code is a liability. Outcome case metrics are hard to track but the only thing that’s actually worth while.”
Software development post AI: “I PRODUCED TWENTY MILLION LINES OF CODE AND THEN PROD EXPLODED, BUT I HIT THE METRIC SO I GOT PROMOTED”
It’s one of the really galling parts of the whole thing. The industry was _just_ starting to wake up to how to actually build good value and now suddenly everyone is drooling about having created two hundred PRs in a day.
@brib @lu_leipzig although long story short it’s because people, without cultural pressure and training, _really_ want to interact with the world via prayer and ritual and the hyperscalers have invented what is essentially digital voodoo deities which your computer can channel.
Like, actual voodoo and paganism are still going strong and there’s and reason for that.
And then people get shitty because it “feels” right and now they get to say that they’re in the right and those pesky nerds who tell you you need to do things like “study science and engineering” are finally wrong.
… I need to read up on voodoo. That sounds fun.
