A common argument I come across when talking about ethics in AI is that it's just a tool, and like any tool it can be used for good or for evil. One familiar declaration is this one: "It's really no different from a hammer". I was compelled to make a poster to address these claims. Steal it, share it, print it and use it where you see fit.

If a hammer was like AI…

Computations will “estimate” your aim, tend to miss the nail and push for a different design. Often unnoticeably.

Lazy Columns And Rows for Android TV with Jetpack Compose

For the past few years, we’ve been getting to grips with Jetpack Compose and how we can use it to build apps for Handheld and Wear OS devices. Late last year, Composables built for Android TV apps started to surface as Alpha releases and in this series of blog posts, I want to dive into these compos

MDN can now automatically lie to people seeking technical information · Issue #9208 · mdn/yari

Summary MDN's new "ai explain" button on code blocks generates human-like text that may be correct by happenstance, or may contain convincing falsehoods. this is a strange decision for a technical ...

I would like to ask that if companies are moving to a Hire&Fire model for organizational health rather than Resource control, that we stop having Engineering interview cycles that are 6-10 hours?

Why bother finding the "right" person when the company only cares about the "right now" person?

I wrote an article about what I call the Trigger pattern and did my best to explain what it is. I didn't come up with the concept, but I felt it needed something to put a name on it. In any case, all feedback is welcome!

Thank you @friendlymike for hosting my article on androiddev.blog!

The "trigger" pattern

Reactive programming and the observable pattern are everywhere nowadays. It is so omnipresent that it's hard to find a library which does not use it or enforce it. It is even more so in the Android ecosystem where Google first released their LiveData library in 2017 and is now more

If you have doubts about what to use as a key for LaunchedEffect in Jetpack Compose:

1️⃣ Think of it as the input/s for your effect. If it changes, the effect needs to get re-run.
2️⃣ Pick something that is captured within the LaunchedEffect lambda.

I'm happy to share with you that I've just finished my book about Jetpack Compose called : Jetpack Compose - develop accessible and modern UI for Android (in French for the moment). It will be available next spring. It was a exciting and exhausting journey of almost 500h of work. I'm proud I've done it, but also happy to move to something else. A big thanks to my reviewers for all the time they spend and the good advices they gave me : @gerardpaligot @Xzan @titouan @EmmanuelDemey
