@m @kinetix Yeah. Come to think of it, I might go with pythondev.social (instead of the current pytthondevs.social). Thanks for pointing this out to me.
@kinetix I don't know. Perhaps?
@kinetix Because this instance is self-hosted on Linode, and I'm paying 30 USD a month for it which is three times what it would cost as a hosted instance running Mastodon on masto.host. Also, I'm very busy with various organisations now, and don't have time to keep on top of administration of this instance. The software is woefully out of date, for example.
@m @kinetix I see. You make a good point. So, you're suggesting that the new instance basically should have a new name/URL? Not sure what that would be though. pythonistas.social perhaps?
In early July 2023, this instance will be shut down to be replaced by a Mastodon instance with the same name. Your data WILL NOT BE CARRIED OVER - so export your data now; let me know if you need any help.
@fluiddyn Yeah, sorry about that. I'm going to scrap this instance and start over using a hosted Mastodon solution instead, in about a month (to give people time to export any data they want from here first).
Mastodon for Python Devs

Wondering what Mastodon is all about? More importantly, what does it offer Python developers and other open source folks compared to Twitter? There is a huge amount of interest in the tech community about what's happening at Twitter and whether they should expand to or even move to a new location. So I decided to put together a set of experienced Python developers who have been Mastodon inhabitants for a long time to discuss what this unexpected shift means for one of our important online watering holes.

@thelostengineer Thanks, I really appreciate the officer. Unfortunately though, I'm not actively working on that project anymore - my interests have since shifted towards tabletop roleplaying games instead. Really wish my interests didn't flutter around like an asent-minded butterfly so I could stay with projects longer, but here we are...
@flbergerdev @CodeSolid I suppose so, but I'm not sure - I've considered migrating it to a Mastodon instance hosted by masto.host which would be cheaper than the current setup. But then I'd lose all the users, which is of course NOT good at all.
Masto.host - Fully Managed Mastodon Hosting

Masto.host was built from the ground up to make running a Mastodon instance easy.

@fluiddyn Hi. It appears you have found my guilty conscience and poked at it. 😅 Yes, it is really old. I've dragged my feet on the upgrade, because I have no idea how complicated an upgrade would be.
