This is going to sound ignorant/stupid, but how is he so rich?

Tesla isn’t a huge car brand compared to the likes of Ford, Renault, Volkswagen, etc. They’re big in the EV space, but we’ve been waiting over a decade for an affordable EV from Tesla and all we’ve got since then is just nonsense. Obviously he’s been getting huge bumps from his position, but how has it only made him so rich? As an aside, how the fuck hasn’t the rest of the Tesla board not sacked him yet?! His last contribution was the Cybertruck, and his next step is literally to suck ALL profit into a dividend payout for himself. What viable business does something this stupid?!

I just don’t get how he’s so rich. In a sane world, the Tesla board would kick him out and put someone more devoted to the brand in charge.

That ignores a huge psychological aspect of weight gain, alongside several questions that contribute:

  • How does the body manage when someone goes from incredible, disciplined health - to no care
  • How do you maintain a calorific deficit in ill health, or with limited mobility?
  • How do you stop someone eating for fun when they’re in their twilight years and they want to enjoy themselves?
  • How do you motivate someone that has gone from good mobility to bad mobility?
  • How do you navigate a caloric deficit safely with both advanced age, retirement, AND diabetes?

I can say that for the latter points, it is incredibly hard to do so, looking at my parents and with people I’ve trained with. Furthermore, going from fighting fit to limited care can make you explode in both weight and joint issues. I’ve trained with a few army guys or people with pro sports experience, and it’s mad how even in your forties you can go from a sub-twenty minute 5k to throwing up on a mat during a 5 min spar.

Only on Lemmy would someone with (likely) zero experience in combat sports tell someone that a sport known for rampant knee issues is “their fault”, and not due to the increased force on the knees from doing a ground-based sport.

Again, only on Lemmy would someone say “you can’t be fat in your seventies, these famous people aren’t”.

Well yeah, if you spend your life doing martial arts of combat sports your joints are probably absolutely fucked, and you’ve got no hope of getting meaningful exercise in without considerable pain. Hell, I’ve done BJJ for only ten years and my knees are a wreck. I know Seagal is into aikido and shit, but being rich I don’t blame him for being fat in his seventies. It’s really fucking hard to stay in shape when you get old.

For some reason, my mind went to first episodes/pilots. Of these, I’d say that Suits and The OC are up there with some of the best.

As for the actual best episode, I’d go for My Lunch, the Scrubs episode where there’s a rabies outbreak amongst organ transplant patients. Alongside this, probably Tracy does Conan from 30 Rock, and the musical episode of IT Crowd.

I know a lot of people felt that they were kinda winging it throughout the show, but I’ve always felt that the ending in particular was planned out from the start, and was beautifully executed.

Surely at this point AOC is going to be in the conversation to run for president in four years. She might not be the frontrunner, but she’s a notable Democrat with a great record.

The best thing to do would be to have them on-side, and working towards a common goal. By alienating her, that battle for her to get the nomination is going to just be more painful. Her platform will be more progressive, because she’ll be stuck in her convictions through being isolated by her party. Her attitude to the old guard will be less about protecting them for their service, and more to do with getting dead wood out.

IMO, anyone that values a progressive platform should back AOC for president right now. Set the wheels in motion, push for stuff you’d think you’d never get, like disarming America, huge tax increases on those earning $1m+, and providing free healthcare.

You may not like him, but the man’s in his seventies. This is what a person in their seventies looks like.
Agreed, ultimately there isn’t really a way to actually park these cars safely without taking up two spaces - which is in itself selfish.
I tried it once to get to London for a meeting. The best way I can describe it is this: if you manage to go to sleep, it’s great, otherwise it’s horrible.
