Lake Toba is Earth's largest caldera lake.

Our room is simple, basic. It’s $10 a night and that’s the view. Has a comfy bed and hot water and that’s all I really need.

Swimming in this ancient caldera lake: priceless.

An endangered baby orangutan made my heart leap in North Sumatra, Indoensia.

Highly recommend an eco-tourism trek near Bukit Lawang— see Putra at the Family Fun Guest House. He’s an incredible jungle guide.

Tourism income helps prevent black market sales and more palm oil plantations— both destroy orangutans.

And: the disastrous effects of pulled USAID funding are coming for these guys, and that sinks my heart.
