Hi, please appreciate my art work 🤗 @ganeshmantra @Deepsealioness
Back on the toot app after a break.
@rootkea Sure but the point is, whether or not someone is a Hindu is not contingent upon whether they believe in caste based discrimination or untouchability. I mean apart from rabid RW, nobody believes in them, and yet continue to be Hindu. My initial opposition was to the claim that this discrimination is an essential tenet of Hinduism.
@binitnls Well from what I understand, the practice stemmed more from the privileged class wanting to stamp their authority upon others, and less from a direct edict from a scripture.
@aura @binitnls It is unique to Hindus, certainly. Whether it is decreed by the scriptures is a dubious claim.
@rootkea @aura Ramayana is a mythological text. It was written much much later than the Vedas. I consider the Ramayana as an exaggerated account of a conflict that happened in India.
@aura The caste system that we see today has more to do with how the British divided the Indian society, and less with the scriptures.
@aura That is not a scripture, more like a rule book, if you will (a shitty one, certainly)
@aura Scriptural backing lends any practice credibility. If a practice exists without any mention in the scriptures, then the humans are at fault. Not the ideology.
