One reason I'm speaking up in forums such as this is to inform people about Delta.chat and promote it's adoption.
As for the Signal protocol, I see SimpleX.chat as a promising new implementation of those ideas with some significant advancements.

Delta.chat works fine with the Gmail service, and if used on both sides of the conversation will provide e2e encryption.
Signal seems to be having problems with the expense of running the service, what happens if Signal runs out of money? They don't seem to have a sustainable model.
