Our Federal Government managed to add $1 triillion to this figure in five months. We are now carrying $39 trillion of debt. If the government accounted for future obligations the way every business in the United States is required to by law, the actual debt load would be well over $100 trillion. If we don't fix the political incentives that drive this, the dollar will not survive intact.
