Words With .. Cats ?

I like to play the Words With FriendsIt’s Scrabble with noises and pretty tilesAnd relaxing when the work day ends But, alas, every once in a while A man would turn up, and want to playI’d take my turn with trepidation Knowing that he maybe may Wish to embark on communicationWhy would anyone want to hit on me?

An ode to my train company

I don't often write in Norwegian, but after two absolutely appalling weeks of attempted commutes Vy, my train company, had the effrontery to send me a 'customer satisfaction' survey. However did they imagine that was going to go down? So I sent my grumpy reply - and the poem in the 'additional comments' section. There's an English translation underneath the Norsk, if you fancy it.

Those who know me know who this poem is for, and about. Grieving is hard, and hard to find time for. But there it is in the moments of peeace we all experience, waiting to pounce.

For John

My wonderful friend John died last Sunday, after a long illness. I couldn't be with him at the end as we lived in different countries but I did my best, as many others did too, to make sure he knew how much he was loved. Back in the summer I wrote an acrostic poem which I sent to him. He kindly said 'Well that's beautiful!

Just desserts

Everyone stirs their own puddingWe add our hopes and secret sinsOur joy, our sorrow, bittersweetBest enjoyed slowly With the tiniest of spoonsEveryone stirs their own pudding With a pinch of our dearest dreams Will there be subtle aftertaste Or just afterthought When only the dish remainsEveryone stirs their own puddingFor each will bring a lifetime’s pain Hoping for the sweetest rewardNo poisoned chalice When we reach our journey’s end
