I understand the impulse but truthfully the problem is that gastrodon here is explicitly patterned after twitter, it's a big broadcast medium, only with the addition of the local and federated timelines which make the amplification problem worse. I don't think twitter can be solved or whatever of elephant site people want to preserve will be preserved except by keeping the network small. Demanding adherence to arcane conversational standards is not going to work, sorry.
