Baltimore’s mayor on social media posts labeling him a “DEI Mayor.”

“They really want to say the ‘n’ word,” Mayor Scott told the @BaltimoreBanner. “But there is nothing they can do and say to me that is worse than the treatment of my ancestors.”

Racists called Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott a ‘DEI mayor.’ Here’s how he responded

“We know what these folks really want to say when they say DEI mayor,” Scott told The Banner. "They really want to say the ‘n’ word."

I got curious about the true story of Strauss — who was played by Robert Downey Jr in OPPENHEIMER, in an Oscar-winning performance — and ended up writing this piece in The Washington Post about his historic Senate battle.

Here’s a gift link for the story (no paywall)!

The true, dramatic story of Robert Downey Jr.’s ‘Oppenheimer’ villain

Lewis Strauss’s Senate confirmation battle was far more complicated and historically significant than depicted in the film “Oppenheimer.”

The Washington Post

Sixty-five years ago today, at 10:20 am, the Senate commerce committee met for the first day of hearings on the nomination of LEWIS STRAUSS.

It would become one of the most brutal confirmation battles in U.S. history.

The committee would go on to meet 15 more times in the next two months before voting on Strauss’ nomination — a detail left out of OPPENHEIMER.

The truth about “Person. Woman. Man. Camera. TV” — a serious test that Trump has made into a kind of joke.

“It sometimes pains me to see that it is ridiculed in the media,” the dementia test’s creator told us for a story in The Washington Post.

More on the actual workings behind the “MoCA.”

Back in 2017, Paul Ryan explained away House GOP feuds as “growing pains.”

Six years later, it seems like self-sabotage has become a chronic condition.

For two decades, PEPFAR has saved millions of lives around the world.

Now the HIV program faces a new threat: US abortion politics, mystifying and worrying global partners.

“Taking funding away… means death,” one HIV leader in Uganda told me.

The split between the Kennedys on covid vaccines is no secret.

Take last December, as the family gathered in Boston to honor Tony Fauci at a dinner at the Kennedy Institute.

As the exact moment that was happening, RFK Jr. was on conservative British TV, questioning vaccines and blasting Fauci.

“I’ve damaged relationships with my family,” RFK Jr. acknowledged.

RFK Jr. came by The Post on Thursday, which was an unusual experience — in a heated discussion with reporters, he doubled down on his debunked theories about covid and vaccines, and said as president he could prosecute Fauci.

After he left, I called up his nephew, former congressman Joe Kennedy III, for a very different conversation on covid and their famous family — and why Joe picked this week to speak out about his uncle.

« We have disagreements … this is a big one, » Joe Kennedy III said of his uncle's vaccine views.

NYC’s top health official:

“Climate change is real. It is here. The extreme weather and disasters like these wildfires, thousands of miles away … impact our health.”

Our look at the Washington Post at how the health effects of climate change are inescapable — and don’t respect national boundaries.

Smoke brings a warning: There’s no escaping climate’s threat to health

The acute public health threat posed by the fumes coupled with the transformation of major cities’ skylines punctured many Americans’ sense of invulnerability.
