Forgot I had an account here... so, the update is we had to move to eastern North Carolina in 2023 and I lost everything in Oregon I'd worked years for, and so, apparently, I'm starting from scratch. Yippee. Coming out of writing retirement and trying to stay sane now that the world has gone to hell. Fun times!

I can't believe my last post was from Rosemary Hill. It's gone now. Everything's dead. I lost it all. Now I'm writing books where I am going to make it all come alive again.

Also, this January sucks ASS.

So, just admire my house all covered in snow and we'll pretend the next four years flew by and the rotten tangerine is rotting in prison somewhere.

From my Amazing, Moody, Foggy Saturday morning... The food, the trees, the rainbow, and having my first Lighthouse BBQ Burger in over 2 years. (Boca patty, sautéed mushrooms and homemade BBQ sauce, homegrown veggies, and home fries. OMFG GLORIOUS)

Hello Mastodon!
It is raining like hell, so, good thing I'm deep-cleaning my office this week! I need to get started on taxes too...
File, baby, file!

Spectacular sunset tonight.

The gloaming was so rosy and orange. 😍

I have an oak forest.
Quercus garryana, Oregon's native white oak.

But the oak is more than just a tree. It's a keystone species, an ecosystem engineer. It provides the architectural structure needed to support literally thousands upon thousands of native insects, mosses, lichens, ferns, birds and mammals.

We need that biodiversity more than ever right now. Ex: One clutch of chickadee fledglings needs 6-9K native caterpillars to reach adulthood.

Oaks are magic, in every sense of the word.

We have 8 cats.
This is one of them...
Charlotte Moon.
My funny bunny Shar-shar.

Today is my Aunt Kathy's funeral, so my family is gathering in Illinois to say their last goodbyes. We thankfully visited last year. She was my oldest aunt and watched me grow up from Day 1.

Getting old is a privilege, but it's not for the weak. She had a great life and gave it all she had, but disease is the worst. All of them. I lost my mother and brother with no warning, I didn't get to say goodbye to them. And, I really, really hate funerals. See your loved ones ***before*** they're gone.

I'm still learning how this works.
I may need a teenager to explain it to me.
